Our Story

Starting with a wish, and a hope, and an idea, Marie began sewing handmade items in her cottage kitchen on Cape Cod in 2011.

At the time, she was farming seasonally on the Cape, and was looking to extend her self-employment opportunities through the quiet winter months of the cape's tourist-based economy.

For the next few years, the sewing business remained small, modest, and experimental, with handmade items like scarves and tote bags being sold locally at craft fairs and farmer's markets.

Starting from those beginning days, though, Marie had an inkling that opening an Etsy shop could benefit her business long term.

One of the first listings she created for Etsy was a modern, flat panel, 100% linen curtain, which could be customized to fit a client's window with precise measurements.

This product gained traction quickly on Etsy, proving to be a popular and desirable aesthetic, and went on to pave the way for a range of custom linen curtain products that are the backbone of Emerald Acre, still to this day.

Over the years, Marie continued to stay active in her local community, attending farmer's markets seasonally as a vendor with both linen goods and fresh produce, and sewing through the winter months at home.

With a itch to find more land, Marie and her family relocated to the Connecticut countryside in 2022. Now a family business, Emerald Acre keeps its roots in farming, natural materials, and a home-based lifestyle.
